Imagine having to first wrap your head around the fact that you are but one person among the , that live in the United States as of May And then capifals to fathom the amount of land there is claimed llearn the USA that houses all those people.
It helps to see maps of the United States to comprehend its vastness. And when you divide this land up into 50 states, it becomes a little bit more easier to grasp. To make this concept easier to make sense of, I created the 50 States Unit Study. With this study children can investigate each state individually, learning fun facts of each state.
Not only do they get to learn about every state, but they also get bonus games, such as state-capital city flashcards and alphabetical-order state list.
Every state has its own page. Each state has its what is the best hp printer for photos flag with it that you can color.
Each page includes where the child needs to color the state on the United States map. The pages also include the shape of the state, in which they can color as well! I recommend going through each page together as a family. Together as you go through each state, you can fill in all the facts about each state. I also recommend following each state study up with an educational video lesson, many of which you can find on YouTube or YouTube Kids.
One of my favorite channels is Kids Learning Tube :. You can find free lapbook templates here. I will give you with my page Homeschool Mom Weekly Lesson Planner, that includes weekly checklist and lesson planning pages, plus curriculum maps and focus pages, if you do the following 3 tasks:. Apr 10, †Ј Hands-on Ways to Learn States and Capitals. Request postcards from each state via Facebook homeschool group or by emailing each states tourism board. Build the USA using a large floor puzzle. Make cookies into some of your favorite shapes or buy a state or country cookie cutter and cut your sandwich into a shape.
Do you remember trying day after day to memorize all the States and Capitals only to miss a few on your test? When you learn facts to music, it is so much easier to remember every detail! Luckily, the Animaniacs have this song to help you quickly and easily learn all the States and Capitals! We bought a large map of the United States and hung it up on our kitchen wall. In our family, most of our time is spent in the kitchen eating, doing crafts, etc. We made sure to get one that was laminated since even our youngest kids were eager to point to places on the map!
We learned the song in sections, or verses. With each new chunk that we were learning, we would see who could find the different states the fastest. This song was no exception. It totally helped us learn the song quickly though, as we would find ourselves humming or singing the song throughout the day. I would also do a pop quiz as they were clearing their dishes from a meal, and see who felt confident enough passing off the song both singing and pointing out the places on the map.
Think Baton RougeЕ It also gave the kids a sense of how we are merely a part of a bigger picture. Our state is so small when you look at it in relation to the nation! We had fun pointing out places we have been, where relatives live, and places we have read about in books. And hey, bragging rights to be able to sing a song and be praised by grandparents and anyone else who will listen, right?
We have been working on learning a little about each state like flags, state landmarks, capitals, bird and flower. We did a few a summer when my son was younger and have been working through them faster as he gets older but we are working on number 10 now. I think that this will be a super funny break that he would enjoy. The song will certainly help with saying them correctly!!
Glad I could help! The pronunciation is one of my favorite thing about learning the states and capitals! We had plenty of good laughs!
